Travel Notes
Left Tokyo on a very rainy first day of Golden Week holidays. The idea was to rent a K car and road trip through Tohoku. It has been eleven years since I last visited the area, volunteering in various capacities after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
My trip was filled with a mix of emotions, sometimes following up with places I had visited during my last trip to see the progress of development (or lack there of). Driving through the edge of Fukushima city, seeing dudes are in radioactive white protective gear definitely caught me off guard. The abandoned cities surrounding the area we’re also alarming.
The museum inside of the Ishinomaki Memorial Park was both beautiful and gutting.
The Towada Art Center by Ryue Nishizawa (Sanna) is breathtaking.
The redone water bankment near Kesenuma was subtle and touching. A beautiful nod to the horrors of the past.
This trip I also got to play with a recently refurbished Makina67. What a pleasure of a camera and a great choice to bring along on this meditative trip.
